FACTORY MOVE

BACKGROUND

The client was a global manufacturer of lubrication systems and components, with operations in multiple countries. As part of a strategy refresh, the UK factory was planned to be relocated to a modern and smaller facility. The project was positioned as an opportunity to streamline operations, reset operational performance, improve safety and shrink the footprint required, thereby reducing operating costs.

SCOPE & DELIVERABLES

  • Study of current production, warehouse, office space and flow
  • Study of machines’ condition and performance

APPROACH

LES provided a small team of Lean and industrial machine experts, visiting the current site for several days to carry out analysis of the current (as-is) condition and process flow. During this time, a visit to the new site was also undertaken.

  • Core production value streams identified and mapped.
  • Machines and other equipment footprints and positioning captured.
  • Material flow captured.
  • Current performance measured.
  • Key stakeholders interviewed.
  • Machines assessed against operational and health & safety legislative requirements.
  • New factory parameters understood and measured.

LES subsequently worked with the client over the proceeding weeks to design the new factory layout and operational flow, create the CAD drawings and finalise recommendations for machine upgrades; so-called ‘to-be’ state. This included frequent interactions with client’s operational staff and scheduled leadership meetings for progress reporting, feedback and sharing of final deliverables.

LES provided the client with a series of detailed reports supported by a full debrief session.

  • Health & Safety report
  • Capex report, including services and utilities
  • CAD drawing pack
  • Lean analysis detailed report
  • Summary final delivery report
